Men’s Water Polo: UCLA Drubs Pacific, 11-7

STOCKTON, CA., November 16. UCLA's No. 5-ranked Bruin men's water polo team tuned up for next weekend's crosstown showdown with USC by drowning the University of Pacific Tigers, 11-7, here this afternoon.

UCLA is now 12-7 overall, 4-4 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play. The loss drops Pacific to 10-12 on the season and 3-5 in the MPSF.

After Pacific broke on top 1-0 on the first possession of the game, UCLA threated to blow the contest open. The Bruins scored five of the next six goals to take a 5-2 lead with two minutes remaining in the opening-period.

The Tigers, however, responded with three goals of their own to tie the match at 5-5 with 6:07 remaining in the second-period. UOP seniors Danny Johnson and Kraig Jorgense had two goals each in the opening period for Pacific to keep the game close, while junior Jared Pendergrass tied the match at five with his 11th goal of the season.

TheBruins came back to take their game to the next level, however, scoring five consecutive goals in the next 13 minutes to take a 10-5 lead into the final period.

UCLA closes its regular-season next Saturday when it battles USC in a 10 AM PST non-conference match at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center, prior to the UCLA-USC football game at 12:30 PM.
