GREENSBORO – York’s Meghan Small set her second and third national records of the meet, while teammate Courtney Harnish lowered the 200 free record and Middle Tyger eclipsed the women’s 400 medley relay record during a fast third night of racing at the YMCA Short Course Nationals meet at Greensboro Aquatic Center.

After crushing the YMCA national record in the 200 back last night, Small continued her assault on the record books with a swift 52.19 tonight in the 100 back. Middle Tyger’s Katrina Konopka had set the previous record of 53.17 in prelims this morning before Small took nearly a full second off the mark in finals. Konopka wound up second in 52.70, while her teammate, Ali Galyer, placed third in 53.71.

In the men’s 100 back, top seed Daniel Hein of Kishwaukee raced to a win in 47.79, not far off the national record of 47.34 from way back in 2000. Sarasota’s Austin Katz just out-touched BR Ryall’s Max St. George for second, 48.28 to 48.33.

Small posted her second national record of the evening and third of the meet in the women’s 400 IM, stopping the clock at 4:03.96 to obliterate Hali Flickinger’s 4:09.30 from 2011. That time would’ve finished sixth overall at this year’s NCAA Division I Championships. Middle Tyger’s Savanna Faulconer also broke the old record with a 4:08.59 for second, while Waynesboro’s Remedy Rule finished a distant third in 4:16.83.

Greater Miami Valley’s Mark Andrew topped the men’s 400 IM championship final in 3:47.94, just under a second in front of Eau Claire’s Paul DeLakis, who came in at 3:48.91. Countryside’s Grant House placed third in 3:53.08.

After winning the 1000 free on night one, York’s Courtney Harnish tracked down her second win of the meet with a new national record in the women’s 200 free. Harnish hit the pads at 1:45.62 to take just over half a second off Margo Geer’s 1:46.20 from 2010. Sarasota’s Sophie Cattermole, who almost broke the record in prelims with a 1:46.85, wound up second in finals with a 1:47.43. Northwest’s Rachel Brown took third in 1:48.01.

Somerset Valley’s Brad Zdroik cruised to a victory in the men’s 200 free, posting a 1:36.58 to beat runner-up Austin Katz of Sarasota (1:38.00) by just under a second and a half. Katz’s teammate, Daniel Erlenmeyer, rounded out the top three in 1:38.40.

Middle Tyger’s Ali Galyer, Savanna Faulconer, Jessi Snover and Katrina Konopka crushed the national record in the women’s 400 medley relay with a 3:37.81, with Konopka posting a very quick 47.82 and making up nearly two seconds on the anchor split. The same foursome had set the old record of 3:39.34 at last year’s meet. York’s Kacey Oberlander, Meghan Small, Courtney Harnish and Emily Ilgenfritz touched second in 3:39.42 after leading at the final exchange. Triangle Area grabbed third, with Kate Moore, Haley Bishop, Olivia Ontjes and Christine Kerr posting a 3:44.75.

Shortly after winning the 200 free, Somerset Valley’s Brad Zroik joined teammates Winston Chu, Joseph Delbuono and Samuel Hendrix to win the men’s 400 medley relay in 3:20.09. Lakeland Hills finished second in 3:20.36, followed by Middle Tyger’s Michael Manucy, Nathan Delahunty, Jack Frazier and John Kelly in 3:21.35.

Middle Tyger leads the women’s meet with 246 points, 33 in front of York (246 points). Sarasota is third with 147 points. Sarasota sits in first in the men’s team standings with 243 points, more than 200 ahead of Westport/Weston’s 111. Triangle Area is in third with 104 points.
