Meet of the Week Recap: Wright State at Tampa

TAMPA, Florida, December 8. WRIGHT State proved to be too much for homestanding Tampa in a SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week as the men clinched a 159-101 victory, while the women topped Tampa, 156-97.

Jessica Weidert led Wright State with four titles. First, she helped the 200 medley relay of Kelsey Cooper, Weidert, Candace Thornburg and Mabel Fernandez to a win in 1:51.61. She also took home titles in the 100 breast (1:07.57), 200 breast (2:24.90) and 200 IM (2:11.05).

Additionally, Fernandez claimed wins in the 50 free (25.15) and 100 free (54.25), while Catalina Martinez won the 500 free (5:13.79) and 1000 free (10:45.18).

Other winners included Cooper (200 back – 2:11.16), Candace Thornburg (100 fly – 59.97) and Brittiany Czoch (200 fly – 2:09.64).

Jessie Bardin paced Tampa with a pair of wins. First, she won the 200 free in 1:55.36 before helping the 400 free relay team of Bardin, Kaitlin Skepanski, Stephanie Branham and Hannah Hudson to a win in 1:42.28. Also, Ellie Eshleman took home the 100 back in 1:00.67.

In the men's meet, Kyle Merritt won the 100 back for Tampa in 52.83 for his team's sole title.

For WSU, Graham Parker, Warren Thompson, Nathan Demchuk and Micah Belew garnered a pair of individual wins.

Parker swept the breaststroke events with wins in the 100 (1:00.16) and 200 (2:12.08), while Thompson cleared the butterfly events with first-place finishes in the 100 (51.02) and 200 (1:52.13).

Demchuk took home the distance events with wins in the 500 (4:42.26) and 1000 (9:46.63) freestyles, while Belew surfaced victorious in the 100 free (48.15) and 200 IM (1:58.95).

Aaron Eckstein (200 back – 1:53.84), Scott Lang (200 free – 1:48.81) and LeRoux Pelser (50 free – 21.74) also earned individual triumphs.

Relays also went to Wright State as the 200 medley relay of Eckstein, Hans Roser, Zach Fisher and Pelser won in 1:36.82, while the 400 freestyle relay of Parker, Joe Reolf, Matt Rippl and T.J. Collins won in 1:28.29.
