Meet of the Week Recap: Purdue Quads; Jillian Tyler Shines With A Cut

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana, February 2. WITH the Minnesota women's team finally showing up after missing the first night due to inclement weather, the team also started showing up in the win column at the SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind. For complete scores, please see below. There may be some changes in the women's scoring at a later date due to Minnesota's first-day absence.

The Golden Gophers picked up five event titles in the women's meet. First, Roxane Akradi, Jillian Tyler, Kaylee Jamison and Stacy Busack won the 200 medley relay in 1:43.15. Next, Yuen Kobayashi snagged the 1000 free crown with a top time of 9:53.66.

Jillian Tyler posted the crown jewel swim of the meet with an A-cut time of 2:13.12 to win the 200 breast, while Jenny Shaughnessy touched first in the 400 IM with a B-cut time of 4:19.25. Kait Strickland also posted a B-cut in the medley event with a second-place time of 4:21.02.

Jacqueline Schroeder headlined diving for Minnesota as she tallied 269.25 points from the always fun to watch tower to win the event.

Wisconsin, meanwhile, garnered five event wins. Jackie Vavrek grabbed a B-cut time off 23.08 in the sprint 50 free event, while Maggie Meyer walked away from the 100 back with a B-cut time of 55.25 for the win.

Christine Zwiegers pocketed the 100 fly title in 55.88, while Jen Illescas placed first in the 200 free in 1:50.61.

Finally, the quartet of Meyer, Hannah McClurg, Vavrek and Illescas stopped the clock in a B-cut time of 3:24.00 to win the 400 free relay. Meyer's leadoff effort of 50.73 also cleared the B-cut threshold.

Minnesota and Purdue divvied up the titles in the men's meet with the Golden Gophers claiming six and the Boilermakers snaring four.

Minnesota swept the relays with B-cut times. Jared White, Colin Lee-To, Mike Woodson and Jason Timmer won the 200 medley relay in 1:28.99, while Curt Carlson, Tyler Schmidt, Stephen Miller and Woodson touched first in the 400 free relay in 2:58.69.

Individually, Russ Payne doubled up with wins in the 100 back (49.64) and 400 IM (3:55.45), while Ray Betuzzi won the 1000 free (9:20.02) and Woodson took hom the 100 fly (48.52) crowns.

For Purdue, Andrew Langenfeld claimed the 50 free in 20.21, while Jin-Soo Kim won the 200 breast in 2:00.63.

John Schmitt surfaced from the 200 free with a win in 1:38.16, while David Colturi accumulated the most points in the tower competition with 385.25 points.
