Meet of the Week Recap: Indianapolis at Truman State Day One; Emily Greenwood Puts on Show

KIRKSVILLE, Missouri, November 2. DURING the first night of swimming in the Division II SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week, Indianapolis and Truman State split a twin-bill. UIndy's men upended host Truman State, 107-98, while TSU's women downed Indianapolis, 112-87.

In the men's meet, UIndy captured seven titles, while Truman State garnered four. The women saw a flip, as UIndy won four crowns and Truman State accumulated seven.

Alex Arestis paced Indianapolis with three titles. He won the 100 free with a B-cut time of 46.82, while helping the 400 medley relay team of Marios Panagi (53.20), Eric Mundt (1:02.31), Yaman Oguz (52.48) and Arestis (46.12) win in 3:34.11. He also lead off the 400 freestyle relay of Arestis (46.79), Hanno Ahonen (46.69), Kieran O'Neill (48.44) and Oguz (47.41) to the title in 3:09.33.

Alican Alacli swept the distance events for UIndy with wins in the 500 (4:49.94) and 1650 (16:30.79) frees, while Oguz wound up with two titles after winning the 100 fly in 52.46. Hanno Ahonen scored the other title for UIndy with a 1:46.07 in the 200 free.

For Truman State, Jason Stokes and Alex Totura led the way. Stokes touched first in the 50 free with a B-cut time of 21.27, while Totura won the 100 back with a B-cut time of 52.63. Andrew Berdine and Adam Pruess also won titles for TSU. Berdine hit the wall first in 4:15.43 in the 400 IM, while Pruess snared the 100 breast crown in 1:00.94.

TSU dominated the women's meet, paced by some scintillating swims from Emily Greenwood. Greenwood helped herself to a trio of titles. First, she lead off the 400 medley relay of Greenwood (58.11), Emily Buss (1:07.52), Laura Harp (58.43) and Emily Pufall (53.07) as it won in 3:57.13. Her 100 back leadoff punched Greenwood's ticket to NCAAs with an automatic qualifier clearing the threshold of 58.49. Greenwood later lowered that cut to a 58.08 when she won the 100 back individual title. She added the 50 free crown with a B-cut time of 24.66.

Other winners for TSU included Jessie Lemaster in the 1650 free in 18:06.19, Molly Polette in the 200 free with a B-cut time of 1:54.41, Katie Welsh in the 400 IM with a B-cut time of 4:38.10, and Carina Pautz in the 100 free with a B-cut time of 53.12.

Overall, TSU had 12 NCAA qualifying cuts in the women's meet. Other swimmers also earning B cuts included Pufall in the 200 free (1:56.52), Kate Aherne in the 200 free (1:56.94) and 100 free (53.33r), Whitney Wodstrchill in the 400 IM (4:36.44), Harp in the 100 fly (58.26), Molly Polette in the 100 free (53.93) and Emily Buss in the 100 breast (1:06.92).

Isabela Tafur led UIndy's women with three B-cut times. She clocked a 1:54.60 in the 200 free, as well as touched in 53.19 and 53.40r in the 100 free. Her leadoff effort helped the team of Tafur (53.40), Erica Smith (54.69), Valerie Crosby (55.33) and Casey Owen (55.94) to the 400 freestyle relay title in 3:39.36.

Other winners for Indianapolis included Valerie Crosby in the 100 fly with a B-cut time of 57.31, Kelsey Kennedy in the 500 free in 5:46.58 and Chelsea Dickhaus in the 100 breast with a time of 1:13.79.
