Meet of the Week Recap: Hartwick Women Down St. Lawrence, 144-93

CANTON, New York, January 20. THE Hartwick College women knocked off St. Lawrence, 144-93, in Canton, N.Y., on Saturday in a SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week. Overall, Hartwick College won eight events, while St. Lawrence garnered five.

Erin Gray (500 and 1000 free), Jillian Paige (200 free and 100 fly) and Ashley Brinkman (one-meter and three-meter diving) each turned in daily doubles for Hartwick, while no swimmer won a pair of individual titles for St. Lawrence.

200 medley relay
St. Lawrence jumped out to a 13-4 lead when the quartet of Kim Watcke, Kate Farrell, Abby Lynch and Ashley Bogosian clocked a first-place 1:56.47 for SLU. Meanwhile, Hartwick's team of Erin Mosher, Kate Ahrendtsen, Casey Whittaker and Katie Swanson took second in 1:57.97.

1000 freestyle
Hartwick cut the gap to 19-17 with a top-two sweep as Erin Gray touched first in 11:23.35 and Ali Gray took second in 11:46.81. Meanwhile, SLU took third when Ashley McCarthy placed third in 12:05.07.

200 freestyle
HC took a 29-26 lead with a 1-3 effort in the 200 free. Jillian Paige won in 2:03.79, while teammate Erin Gray finished third in 2:06.32. SLU's Kim Watcke split the difference in 2:05.94 for second place.

50 freestyle
St. Lawrence countered in the sprint free to take a 39-35 advantage. Abby Lynch hit the wall in 25.98 with teammate Ashley Bogosian taking second in 26.10. HC's Devon Fuller finished third in 26.73.

400 IM
Hartwick rebounded in the 400 IM to take a 50-43 on the back of a 1-2 performance. Katie Swanson won the race in 4:57.46, while teammate Casey Whittaker took second in 5:02.57. St. Lawrence's Devan Meserve then grabbed third in 5:07.50.

100 butterfly
HC stretched its lead to 63-49 with another top-two sweep. Jillian Paige captured her second individual win with a time of 1:02.97, while Casey Whittaker touched in 1:03.08 for second. SLU's Abby Lynch rounded out the top three in 1:04.89.

100 freestyle
St. Lawrence cut the gap to 71-60 when Ashley Bogosian clocked a 57.13 to win the 100 free. Hartwick then picked up the next two spots as Devon Fuller (58.64) and Erin Fleming (59.34) took second and third place, respectively.

100 backstroke
SLU continued to chop away, with the deficit down to 79-71 after the 100 back. Kim Watcke touched first in 1:03.54, while HC settled for second and third with Erin Mosher (1:05.81) and Diana Sardelis (1:12.85) rounding out the top three.

500 freestyle
Hartwick made its move in the middle distance free to take a 93-76 lead when Erin Gray turned in her second title with a time of 5:27.35. Meanwhile, her teammate Jillian Paige took second in 5:34.53, while SLU's Katie Waters wound up third in 5:41.30.

100 breaststroke
SLU came within 10 points, 99-89, in the 100 breast when Kate Farrell touched first in 1:11.86. Her teammate Alida Gerritsen took second in 1:15.21 to hold off HC's Lisa Hornsby (1:15.31) who placed third.

200 freestyle relay
Hartwick snagged a 112-93 advantage in the swimming events when Devon Fuller, Erin Fleming, Erin Mosher and Katie Swanson posted a first-place time of 1:48.12. Meanwhile, SLU's foursome of Meg Vaughn, Ashley McCarthy, Meg Bernier and Alida Gerritsen finished second in 1:51.29.

Diving
With St. Lawrence not having a diver compete, Hartwick just padded the point total for a final tally of 144-93. Ashley Brinkman won both events (1m: 222.60 and 3m: 235.55).
