Mecklenburg’s Ricky Berens Stands Out

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, November 12. MECKLENBURG Aquatic Club had a dual meet over the weekend with the Dynamo Swim Club. While there were several impressive swims at the meet, MAC’s Ricky Berens stole the show with blazing fast times.

Berens blazed a 200 fly of 1:47.54, a time that would rank him third in the current college rankings. More, he showed off his endurance with a strong 4:31.12 in the 500 freestyle and displayed his versatility by posting a 51.21 in the 100 back, a 1:50.07 in the 200 Backstroke, 59.07 in the 100 Breast and 1:54.21 in the 200 IM.

The highlight of the evening for Berens came in the 400 freestyle relay, where he led off with a smoking 47.76. His freestyle must have been worn out, because he swam butterfly. The future University of Texas swimmer is already faster than anyone else in the college ranks in the 100 butterfly with that time.
