After day two of the Ivy Swimming and Diving Championships, Harvard has a slim lead. The Crimson have tallied 1018 points, just ahead of the Princeton Tigers (965.6 points). Pennsylvania rounds out the top three.
The day started with the 200-yard medley relay. The Harvard team took first place with a time of 1:25.57. The relay consisted of backstroker Steven Tan, breaststroker Shane McNamara, butterflier Max Yakubovich and freestyler Paul O’Hara. Princeton took the silver medal and Columbia was third.
In the 400-yard individual medley, Pennsylvania’s Mark Andrew touched first with a time of 3:43.53. Corey Okubo of Princeton earned a silver medal in 3:46.04 and his teammate, Samuel Smiddy, was third with a time of 3:46.73.
Harvard’s Max Yakubovich took first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 46.59. Ben Schafer of Princeton touched second in 46.79, and Columbia’s Terry Li earned the bronze in 47.07.
A Pennsylvania swimmer picked up an individual win in the 200-yard freestyle. Eric Schultz touched in 1:35.22. Harvard’s Aly Abdel Khalik touched second in 1:36.77. Princeton’s Julian Mackrel finished only four-hundredths of a second later in 1:36.81.
Cornell’s Alex Evdokimov took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke. He posted a time of 52.46 to win by over a second. McNamara touched second in 53.60 and Princeton’s Byron Sanborn took the bronze in 53.68.
In the 100-yard backstroke, En-Wei Hu-Van Wright of Princeton took the gold medal with a time of 46.13. His teammate, Alexander Lewis, touched second in 47.36. Dartmouth’s James Verhagen took third with a time of 47.53.
Princeton barely beat Pennsylvania in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The Tigers won by six-hundredths of a second. The team of Schafer, Julian Mackrel, Teo D’Alessandro and Sandy Bole touched in 6:25.73. Yale was third in 6:26.01.
Tomorrow’s preliminary races begin at 11 a.m.
