NEW COMMIT: Naperville, Ill. native and current high school junior Alexa Puccini has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Iowa as a member of the class of 2024.

Puccini does her club swimming with Maverick Swim Club and most recently competed at NCSAs where she recorded a pair of best times after placing ninth in the 200 fly at Illinois Seniors. This past summer, she took 18th in the 200m IM at Illinois LCM Seniors before going on to final in both fly events at Iowa City Speedo Sectionals. Also competing for Naperville Central High School, Puccini finished eighth in the 100 fly as a junior at the Illinois State Championships.

She told Swimming World:

“Beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Iowa. I would like to thank my family, including my teammates, coaches and friends for helping me through this process. Looking forward to the next four years with my future family! Go Hawkeyes!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.80
  • 200 back – 2:04.61
  • 100 fly – 55.61
  • 200 fly – 2:03.39
  • 200 IM – 2:06.73

Puccini will add valuable fly depth when she suits up for the Hawkeyes at the start of the 2020-21 season. Although she’s not in scoring range just yet at the Big Ten Championships, she has continuously made improvements each season with well over a year to go before arriving in Iowa City.
