Martyn Wilby Discusses Florida Women’s Opening Meet of Season (Video)

GAINESVILLE, Florida, September 30. THE Florida women’s swimming and diving team kicked off the competition portion of their 2014-015 season a little bit earlier than usual, racing against conference for Arkansas last Saturday. The Gators had no problem beating the Razorbacks in the first home meet.

Florida Associate Head Coach Martyn Wilby met with members of the media Monday to talk about the competition, particularly what it means to race in late September.

“We’re certainly not race ready at this moment,” Wilby said. “I think it gave us a good opportunity to swim people in different events and also get a chance to see the freshmen race.”

Lindsey McKnight’s switch to breaststroke for medley relay purposes was one highlight of experimenting with different strokes that Wilby pointed out. Natalie Hinds’ three wins was also a high point for Wilby, saying “she’s one of the best sprinters in the country” and calling her “invaluable.”

Wilby also talked about the All-Florida Invitational this weekend and what the format of allowing only three swimmers per school to race in the finals will mean for his athletes in prelims.
