Marshall vs. Xavier

HUNTINGTON, West Virginia. October 9. THE Xavier women's swimming team open the 2009-10 regular season with a 161-135 win at Marshall Saturday afternoon. The Musketeers won nine of 14 events at the Herd's Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.

The meet opened with the 200 medley relay as XU's quartet of junior Kari Peglar, senior Martha Cutter-Wilson, junior Bethanie Griffin and senior Alison Johnson touched first with a time of 1:50.22. Peglar also took first in the 200 freestyle (1:55.85) and Cutter-Wilson placed first in the 100 breaststroke,

Griffin turned in a time of 24.81 in the 50 freestyle which was good for first. In the 200 breaststroke, Cutter-Wilson again was a winner (2:26.75) and Griffin took another first-place finish in the 100 butterfly (59.38).

Peglar wrapped up the individual events with a time of 2:11.63 in the 200 IM for another best time and the Musketeers ended the day with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Griffin and Johnson joined freshmen Randi Windemuller and Courtney Shields to turn in a time of 1:39.19 in the event.
