Maroon Defeats Gold in Gopher Women’s Intrasquad

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, October 20. MAROON defeated Gold 179-112 this past Saturday, according to reports from the University of Minnesota, in an women's swimming intrasquad meet at the University Aquatic Center.

The Maroon team started the day with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. Katie Wind, Bridget McCoy, Sarah Solfelt and Katy Coombe chipped in a time of 1:46.81. The Gold team of Jennifer Hasling, Erika Bjorklund, Amy Cahoy and Sara Vine came in second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.40.

The Maroon relays ended the competition just as they started it. Therelay of Sarah Perrott, Coombe, Wind and Kate Hardt chipped in a winning time of 3:31.36. The Gold relay of Caroline Schik< /a>, Heather Harris, Katherine Marshall and Jackie Gazvoda added a time of 3:35.96 for second place.

Individually, Hardt won three events. She posted a win in the 200- yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.65, while Val Tukey from the Gold team finished in second with a time of 1:53.04. Hardt added a win in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:00.53. She followed with a win of 200 individual medley in 2:09.63.

Freshman Amy Killpatrick won her first event as a Golden Gopher when she clocked a lifetime best of 10:28.93 in the 1000 free for the Gold team. Wind won both of the 100 and 200 back events in 58.04 and 2:05.88, respectively. Solfelt won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.70, while Lindsey St. Martin won the 100 fly in a time of 58.51.

In diving competition, senior captain Abbie Bowden won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. She finished with a 266.55 score in the 1-meter, while adding a score of 282.38. Holly Jakits finished second in the 1-meter with a score of 223.70 and third in the 3-meter with a score of 248.40. Cierra Mantz added a score of 248.63 for second in the 3-meter.

The Gophers continue home action again next weekend, hosting the Alumni Meet at the University Aquatic Center.
