Marco Koch led a handful of swimmers under 2:10 in the men’s 200-meter breast prelims at the 2015 FINA World Championships.

Koch clocked a top time of 2:09.12, just a bit off his third-ranked time of 2:08.57.

In a truly shocking occurrence, following in line with Yuliya Efimova missing the women’s 200-meter breast semis, Great Britain’s Adam Peaty finished 26th overall in 2:13.24.  He entered the day ranked second in the world with a 2:08.34 and was unable to summon that type of speed this morning.

Great Britain’s Andrew Willis claimed the second seed in 2:09.35, just off his fifth-ranked 2:08.59, while China’s Mao Feilian picked up third in 2:09.56.

Kazakhstan’s Dmitriy Balandin qualified fourth in 2:09.75, while three-time defending champion Daniel Gyurta made his way into semis with a 2:09.81.

Finland’s Matti Mattsson (2:09.89), USA’s Kevin Cordes (2:09.94) and Russia’s Anton Chupkov (2:09.97) also broke 2:10 to make the top eight.

Russia’s Ilya Khomenko (2:10.13), Iceland’s Anton McKee (2:10.21), Sweden’s Erik Persson (2:10.51), USA’s Nic Fink (2:10.43), Japan’s Yasuhiro Koseki (2:10.47), Germany’s Christian Vom Lehn (2:10.71), Italy’s Luca Pizzini (2:11.00) and Lithuania’s Giedrius Titenis (2:11.11) rounded out the semifinal heats.

Cameron van der Burgh (21st/2:12.37) and Glenn Snyders (23rd/2:12.71) were among other big names like Peaty to miss semis.
