Pepperdine Press Release

The Pepperdine women’s swimming and diving squad had a tremendous day to conclude action at the Malibu Invitational. The Waves collected 13 top-10 finishes, highlighted by a pair of race wins courtesy of Jessica Mosbaugh.

Mosbaugh (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) continues her junior campaign right where she left off, on top of the winner’s podium. After winning 14 races as a sophomore, Mosbaugh added two more victories to her tally today.

She opened the day with a second-place result in the 200 butterfly. Her time of 2:08.61 was just 1.5 second off the Pepperdine record. Mosbaugh followed that up with wins in both the 50 and 100 breaststroke events.

The junior rounded out her day with a top-10 showing in the 50 butterfly.

Freshman Sabrina Altman (Kula, Hawaii/Seabury Hall) impressed today, placing in the top-10 in three of her four races. She took third behind Mosbaugh in the 50 breaststroke behind a time of 32.26, while pacing the Waves in the 100 backstroke with a fourth-place time of 1:00.80. She also led Pepperdine in the 200 backstroke, and clocked a 2:15.48 for seventh place.

Fellow freshman Lauren Stigers (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS), who dove for the Waves yesterday, was solid in the swim events today as well. She tallied top-10 finishes in three races, including fourth place in the 50 and 100 breaststroke events. The all-around performer also placed sixth in the 200 breaststroke to lead Pepperdine.

Heather Connelly (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge HS) is on track to become a Pepperdine freestyle great, and led her team in the 200 freestyle. The freshman placed 10th after hitting the wall in a time of 2:01.95.

Nicolette Barreiro (Valencia, Calif./Hart HS) was the first Wave to finish the 100 butterfly, and sixth overall after posting a time of 1:01.13. She also earned a top-10 result in the 50 butterfly (27.58). She nearly set a new personal record in the 50 backstroke, and was just a half second shy with a final time of 29.52.

Senior Codie Cox (Sonoma, Calif./Maria Carrillo HS/Santa Rosa JC) narrowly missed out on a top-10 result in the 50 fly, but clocked a 28.14 for 11th – her best time to date in a Pepperdine uniform. She upped the pace in the 100 fly, and took 10th with a time of 1:02.48.

Pepperdine continues the season on Nov. 7-8 with the Mustang Invitational hosted by Cal Poly.
