Major Names Set to Race at Australia Skins and World Cup

SYDNEY, Australia, November 9. KIRSTY Coventry, who won four medals at last summer’s World Championships in Montreal, will highlight action at the Australia Skins and FINA World Cup stop in Sydney later this month. The Zimbabwe native won gold in the 100 and 200 backstroke events at the World Champs, and also added silver medals in the 200 and 400 individual medley disciplines.

The Skins event is scheduled for Nov. 17 at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Center while the World Cup stop is slated for Nov. 19-20. Coventry will be joined in both meets by South Africa’s Ryk Neethling, who helped the Springboks to gold and a world record in the 400 freestyle relay at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

The three days of hot racing will also include the United States’ Natalie Coughlin and Margaret Hoelzer and Italy’s Fedrica Pellegrini, a freestyle ace. Of course, the Aussies will also be well represented as Leisel Jones, Libby Lenton and Jessicah Schipper are scheduled to race. Australia will also rely on the talents of Jade Edmistone, Danni Miatke and Giaan Rooney. For the men, Neethling will be joined as a major name by the presence of American backstroker Randall Bal and Italy’s Luca Marin, the silver medalist at the World Champs in the 400 I.M.
