Maine, Stony Brook vs. Boston University

BOSTON, Massachusetts, November 5. THE Boston University women's swimming & diving team won 11 events on Saturday afternoon as the Terriers went up against Maine and Stony Brook at the Competition Pool.

The Terriers swept both of the diving events, with junior Melinda Matyas claiming first place in the 3-meter and Diver of the Week Chelsea Glincman winning the 1-meter.

BU started the event strong with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.30). Freshman Avery Visser was the fastest swimmer in the 1000-yard freestyle, as she posted a time of 10:32.84. She also finished third in the 500 free (5:12.88).

Sophomore Kendra Cheng, who was part of the 200 medley relay team, led BU in the 100 back with a first-place time of 57.92. Junior Katie Radin (58.47) and freshman Alexsa Savage (59.85) rounded out the top-3 in that event.

Like Cheng, senior Kristen Connors also reaped individual laurels as she claimed first place in the 100 breast (1:05.07) and the 200 breast (2:23.64). In the 200 fly, senior Amanda Schmitz (2:06.44) and freshman Katie Kenney (2:08.86) placed first and second, respectively. Schmitz also went on to win the 500 free (5:08.29), with junior Megan Happ (5:12.85) and Visser (5:12.88) finishing second and third, respectively.

Junior Alex Hunter and Happ finished second and third, respectively, in the 200 free. Hunter was just two hundredths of a second behind the first-place swimmer with a time of 1:57.17. Happ was next with a time of 1:58.18.
BU also had swimmers finish one-two in the 200 back thanks to strong races from Radin (2:05.98) and senior Francesca Ferrante (2:09.87).

Kenney led a trio of Terriers in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.76. Junior Lauren Drake (58.92) and junior Liz Floyd (58.94) were the other BU swimmers in the top-3.

Next up for BU will be a home meet with Fordham at the Competition Pool on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1:30 p.m.

The Boston University men's swimming & diving team hosted Maine and Stony Brook at the Competition Pool on Saturday afternoon, winning 12 events during the meet.

The event started well for BU as the Terriers took first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:30.09. Sophomore Knox Anderson took the next event for BU as well, with a time of 9:55.84 in the 1000-yard freestyle.

The Terriers boasted the top three swimmers in the 100 back, with sophomore Nik Astashinsky (53.56) leading the way. Behind him were senior Jackson Hill (54.44) and freshman Alec Pokornowski (55.06). Porkornowski had more individual success later in the meet, as he also finished first in the 500 free (4:42.39).

Sophomore Andrew Guinther claimed first place in the 100 breast (59.39), while freshman Brandon Funk took first in the 200 fly (1:54.70). Senior Justin Gilmartin (21.08) and freshman Cole Puchi (21.38) finished one-two in the 50 free before flipping positions in the 200 back.

Senior Daniel Kempf was best in the 100 free, finishing first with a time of 46.68.

BU divers also had success, as sophomore Jared Scheck won the 1-meter dive, with junior Jake Frankenfield finishing behind him in second. The pair finished second and third, respectively, in the 3-meter dive.
Sophomore Jeff Thomas led the Terriers in the 100 fly with a time of 51.55. Funk (51.94) and freshman Ryan Bach (52.26) finished right behind Thomas. In the 200 breast, freshman Brian Bonack (2:11.82) and Guinther (2:12.07) were the top two finishers.

Next up for BU is a home date with Texas A&M and Fordham at the Competition Pool. That meet will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1:30 p.m.
