Maine, Stony Brook Split

ORONO, Maine, November 12. THE University of Maine men's and women's swimming and diving teams split their first America East meet of the season on Sunday afternoon at Wallace Pool. The women won 140-98, while the men were defeated 138-103. Adi Levy and Tal Shpaizer both had two wins for the women and Nathan Richard and Keith Burgie both won two events for the men.

For the women, Maine got things started with by taking the top two places in the 200 medley relay. In the 1000 free, Sarah Holmsten (Red Wing, Minn.) won with a time of 11:01.34, while Mackenzie Grobmyer (Charlottesville, Va.) was second in 11:07.54. Tal Shpaizer (Shoham, Israel) took first place in the 200 free in 1:58.42 and Jessie Ellis-Alcaide (Harpswell, Maine) was first in the 50 free with a time of 25.16. The Black Bears took the first three places in the 200 IM, led by Adi Levy (Givatayim, Israel) in 2:17.02 for first place and Kiki O'Donnell (Hampden, Maine) in 2:17.30 for second place. In the 100 butterfly, Adi Levy was first in 1:02.00 and Colleen Miller (Missoula, Mont.) was second in 1:02.15. The first place finishes continued with Kari Boffa (Falmouth, Maine) taking the 100 free in 55.10. Tal Shpaizer added a first place in the 100 back with a time of 1:00.91 and Mimi Chovanec (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) was first in the 500 free with a time of 5:15.75. Maine was second in the 200 free relay. In the one meter diving event, Samantha Graham (Brewer, Maine) was second with 199.27 points, while in the three meter event Megan Barrett (Farmington, Conn.) was second with 215.70 points.

In the men's meet, Brendan Amy (South Portland, Maine) was second in the 1000 free in 10:52.45. Nathan Richard (Vergennes, Vt.) won the 100 breast in 58.08 and was also first in the 100 free in 48.66. In the 500 free, Jamison Young (Richboro, Pa.) took second place with a time of 5:13.07. Maine was second in the 200 free relay. In the one meter event, Maine took the top three spots, led by Keith Burgie (Arundel, Maine) with 242.47 points. The Black Bears also took the top three spots in the three meter event, again led by Keith Burgie with 250.65 points.
