Madison West Wins Wisconsin Boys D1 High School States

Madison West won the 2018 Wisconsin High School Division 1 swimming and diving state championships with 293 points. Middleton was second with 223.50 points, just more than Waukesha South/Catholic Memorial with 221 points.

Madison West won the 200 medley relay with the team of Wes Jekel, Henry Miller, Constantin Bensch, and Matthew Fernandez in 1:32.35. The team’s Lian Weaver was second in the 200 freestyle (1:39.50) behind Greenfield Co-op’s Ben Davis in 1:39.19. Weaver won the 100 butterfly with a 48.99.

West Bend East/West’s Bryan Fitzgerald stopped the clock in 1:50.15 for 200 IM victory. Jekel was runner up (1:51.53). Jekel won the 100 backstroke in 49.11. Madison Memorial’s senior Alex Wowk finished second with a 49.89. Jekel’s teammate Miller won the 100 breaststroke with his 56.59.

Fitzgerald was second in the 500 freestyle behind Waukesha South/Catholic Memorial’s John Acevedo‘s 4:31.15.

Lucas Farrar, a senior from Arrowhead, won the 50 freestyle with a 20.47. Ryan Linnihan, a senior from Brookfield Central/East finished second in 20.79, just .01 ahead of Waukesha South/Catholic Memorial’s Jacob Carlson in 20.80.

The team from Franklin won the 200 freestyle relay (1:24.96). Madison West won bookend relays, taking the 400 freestyle in 3:04.94.
