LSU Hosting Intrasquad Meet in Renovated Facility

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana, September 25. THE LSU Swimming and Diving team takes to the pool for the annual purple and gold intrasquad meet Friday, at 3 p.m., in the newly renovated Natatorium.

“We had to go all over the place to get into the pools this summer,” LSU Swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “It’s nice to come back and see all of the updates to the pool. We definitely appreciate our administration for putting money into and updating our facility”

Co-captains Amber Carter and Frank Greeff will lead the purple and gold teams respectively. Carter and Greeff both look to qualify for NCAA Championships in their final year.

Carter qualified last season in the 100 fly and took first in the ‘C’ final at SEC Championships. The Houston, Texas native was also a part of the relay team that set the program record in the 400-medley relay.

Greeff owns school records in the 200 fly, 800 freestyle relay and 400-medley relay. The South Africa native also earned his second All-America honor after finishing second in the ‘B’ final of the 200 fly.

“It’s good to try and get up and use different energy systems,” Geyer added. “This is such a really fun meet. It brings forth a competitive environment prior to the start of the regular season.

NCAA Qualifiers Kara Kopcso, Cassie Weil and Daniel Helm highlight the purple team. Kopcso erupted on to the scene last season after setting school records in the 200 fly and 800 freestyle relay. The sophomore was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and qualified for the United States Junior Pan Pacific team this summer after an impressive performance at USA Swimming Championships.

Divers Cassie Weil and Daniel Helm also look forward to another successful season. Weil owns the program record on three-meter and set the record on platform at NCAA’s last year on the way to a First-Team All America honor. Weil also earned bronze on three-meter and platform at last season’s SEC Championships.

Helm looks to fill a void left by veterans Sean McKinney and Kevin Leong. The senior was a 2012 NCAA Honorable Mention All-American and a member of the All-SEC Second Team.

Alex Bettridge, Logan Rysemus and Leah Troskot highlight the gold team. Bettridge owns the school record on one-meter and was an NCAA Honorable Mention All-American in 2012.

Rysemus and Troskot shined in their first year on campus. Rysemus owns top-10 times in the 100 fly, 100 back and 200 back. Troskot took first in the ‘C’ final of the 100 free at SEC’s last year and owns the program record in the 400-medley relay and 800 freestyle relay.

“This is a great opportunity for our team to split up and go race,” LSU Diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “This will be our first chance to compete in the renovated Natatorium so we are excited to go out there.”
