Louisville Wins 10 Events on Night Two of Louisville Invitational

LOUISVILLE – The Louisville men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams won 10 of the 16 events contested tonight to extend their leads in the team standings at the Louisville Invitational.

After 28 events, the University of Louisville men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are in first place after the Day 2 finals at the Louisville Invitational Saturday evening at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.

The Cardinal women lead with 1,256 points followed by Western Kentucky (976), UConn (808), Missouri State (684) and Southern Illinois (566). The Cardinal men lead with 1601.5 ahead of WKU (730), UConn (721), Missouri State (702.5) and Southern Illinois (582).

“It was another great day of racing,” said UofL head coach Arthur Albiero. “Our goal is to fine tune the little things. The thing about racing is that you cannot create that environment in practice. To get better at racing, you have to race. I think this has been a great tuneup for the kids who are heading to Short Course Nationals and those who are trying to make cuts, it gets them a little bit closer.”

The Cardinals won the 200-medley relay with a 1:39.55 put up by Tanja Kylliainen (25.51), Lucy Kramer (28.38), Kelsi Worrell (22.94) and Andrea Kneppers (22.72).

The men’s 200-relay team of Grigory Tarasevich (22.22), Thomas Dahlia (24.00), Pedro Coutinho (20.60) and Rudy Edelen (19.48) combined for a 1:26.30 NCAA B-cut time.

Louisville’s Tanja Kylliainen won the women’s 400 IM with an NCAA B-cut time of 4:07.88. Abby Chin finished a strong second but she was eight seconds behind at 4:15.03.

Cardinal Nolan Tesone won the men’s 400 IM with a 3:47.97 after dueling runnerup Uvis Kalnins of Missouri State in the final 25 yards.

The women’s 100 fly saw the top four times as NCAA B-cut times and was won by Kelsi Worrell, who went 52.00. Tanja Kyllliainen went 53.06 to touch second and Devon Bibault was fourth in 54.37 for the Cards.

UofL’s Pedro Coutinho took the men’s 100 fly with a 47.08 B-cut time. Teammates Aaron Young (47.54) and Josh Quallen (47.76) made it a Louisville top three sweep.

In the women’s 200-freestyle, Andrea Kneppers took top honors with a 1:47.10 for a B-cut. Cardinal Alexandra Sellers touched third with a 1:50.28.

In the men `s 200-freestyle, Southern Illinois’ Till Pallmann touched first with a B-cut time of 1:37.10. Matthias Lindenbauer was second with a 1:38.05 and Grigory Tarasevich was in the mix with a third place time of 1:38.24.

In the 100-breaststroke, WKU’s Claire Conlon won in 1:01.86 for a B-cut. Lucy Kramer was second in 1:02.76.

Thomas Dahlia won the men’s 100-breast with a 53.18. Addison Bray was third in 55:05 and Todd Owen was fourth with a 55.20, all B-cuts.

In the women’s 100-back, Western Kentucky’s Nadine Laemmler was into the wall in 53.38 and a B-cut. Hannah Magnuson was second, posting a time of 53.99, cutting, nearly two seconds from her prelim time. Erica Belcher was fourth with a time of 55.19.

In the men’s 100-back, Paul Le of Missouri State took top honors with a 48.07 for a B-cut time. UofL’s Aaron Greene was second in 48.51 and Josh Quallen was third in 48.85.

In men’s 3-meter diving, Louisville’s Sean Piner was the top finisher with a 331.90 for fourth.

SIU’s Cheri Zhang was first for the women’s one-meter with a pool record score of 358.30. Emily Stalmack was sixth with a 261.10. Alessandra Murphy posted a score of 245.85.

In the women’s 800-free relay, the Louisville A relay team of Kelsi Worrell (1:48.27) Andrea Kneppers (1:48.23) Houck (1:48.80) with an anchor by Tanja Kylliainen in 1:46.97 for 7:12.27 and the win.

In the men’s 800-free relay, Trevor Carroll (1:36.49), Thomas Dahlia (1:39.00), Matthias Lindenbauer (1:37.95) and Grigory Tarasevich (1:38.15) for a winning time of 6:31.59.
