Louisiana Division IV High School State Championships

SULPHUR, Louisiana, December 1. UNIVERSTY, Episcopal and Isidore Newman took first, second and third on the girls' and boys' side at the Louisiana Division IV High School State Championships. For the girls, University scored 337 points, followed by Episcopal (211) and Isidore Newman (186). On the boys' side, University scored 395.50, Episcopal took second (204) and Isidore Newman placed third (192).

Girls Individual Results
University set a record in the 200 medley relay, surpassing Isidore Newman's 2006 record by .53 seconds (1:53.96). Laura Furr, Katherine Miles, Ayuko Morikawa and Caroline Forbes contributed to the win.

Miles placed first in back-to-back events – the 200 freestyle (1:55.30) and 200 IM (2:07.84).

Furr also had dual individual wins. She won the 100 freestyle (55.05) and 100 backstroke (1:00.88).

Merryn Guidry, Elizabeth Holden, Morgan Kleinschmidt and Ellie Simmons of St. Martin's won the 200 freestyle relay (1:49.47).

University's 200 medley relay reunited in the 400 freestyle relay for a first-place finishing time of 3:52.38.

Boys Individual Results
Brock Davis, Austin Bennett, Clay Furr and Clay Adamek (University) won the 200 medley relay (1:46.49).

Davis also won the 200 freestyle (1:47.36) and 100 backstroke (53.17).
Junior Christian Riess (Isidore Newman) set records in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly. He won the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.57. The previous record was held by Nathan Clark of Episcopal. Riess' 100 butterfly time was 50.50, earning him an All-American qualifying time.

Episcopal's Austin Butler clocked a 21.87 and a 47.89 in the 50 and 100 freestyles respectively.

Adamek teamed up with David Lamonte, William Major and Alex Welch in the 200 freestyle. The group had a first-place finish with a time of 1:38.70.

Welch had an individual win in the 100 breaststroke. He finished with a time of 1:04.77. He joined teammates Lamonte, Furr and Davis in the 400 freestyle relay. The boys closed the meet with a winning time of 3:32.41.
