Louisiana Division I High School State Championships

SULPHUR, Louisiana, December 1. AT the Division I State Championships, Nortshore walked away with the state title with a combined team score of 508 points. Half of a point separated the second and third place finishers; Mandeville scored 316.5 points and Fontainebleau scored 316.

Girls Individual Results
Nortshore won all of the relays, opening the meet with a 1:54.32 in the 200 medley relay. Heather Winn, Mary Jabbia, Annie Holladay and Colleen Donovan touched out St. Joseph's Academy by nearly .34 seconds.

Juniors Winn and Donovan also had dual individual first-place finishes as well. Winn had first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:54.35) and the 500 freestyle (5:03.20). Donovan won the 200 IM (2:09.23) and the 100 freestyle (53.55).

Sophomore Joanne Chien (Baton Rouge) touched out her competitors in the 50 freestyle (24.60) and 100 backstroke (59.13).

Jabbia teamed up with Maria Reyes, Taylor Tadlock and Katie Bergerud for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:44.46).

Jessica Kopcso (Fontainebleau) won the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke with times of 57.72 and 1:07.10 respectively.

Bergerud, Holladay, Winn and Donovan took first in the 400 freestyle relay (3:42.35).

Boys Individual Results
The Jesuit boys also won the three relays, earning All-American qualifying times in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

Brian Carr, Marc Dorsey, Mark Reuther and Ramsey Burch won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.36. Dorsey, Burch and Reuther teamed up with Jared Rodrigue to set a record in the 200 freestyle relay (1:25.47). The group broke the record by only .45 seconds.

Dorsey won the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke (51.21), earning All-American qualifying times in each. He finished with a 1:52.55 in the 200 IM, nearly missing the 1994 record by .19 seconds. The record is held by St. Paul's Kris Babylon.

Carr had dual individual wins as well. He took first in the 200 (1:42.76) and 500 (4:39.96) freestyles.

Rodrigue and Carr joined Chris Willem and Chris Reuter to close the meet with a 3:18.70 first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.
