Louisiana Division 4 High School State Championships

SULPHUR, Louisiana, November 24. AT the Louisiana Division 4 High School State Championships, LSU Laboratory and St. Charles Catholic won state titles. The LSU Laboratory girls won with 326 points followed by Episcopal (249) and St. Charles Catholic (230). On the boys' side, St. Charles Catholic tallied 397 points for first while LSU Laboratory took second (291) and Episcopal finished third (235).

Girls Results
University High's Laura Furr, Smacker Miles, Ayuko Morikawa, and Caroline Forbes won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:54.01. Furr had individual wins in the 100 freestyle (54.81) and the 100 backstroke (59.59).

Miles, a freshman, was a dual event winner in the 200 freestyle (1:54.05) and the 200 IM (2:07.72).

St. Martin's won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.22. Merryn Guidry, Megan Hoolahan, Maddie Guidry, and Elizabeth Holden contributed to the win.

Freshman Brenna Weber (Metairie Park Country Day) won the 100 butterfly (1:01.56) and the 500 freestyle (5:33.63).

Miles, Forbes, Morikawa, and Furr set a meet record in the 400 freestyle relay. The girls clocked a time of 3:44.64 for the win. The previous record (3:45.13) was set by Isidore Newman in 2002.

Boys Results
William Major, Alex Welsch, Clay Furr, and David Baker (University High) took first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.28. Welsch also had an individual win in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.65).

Furr was a dual event winner in the 200 (1:50.49) and 500 (4:59.72) freestyles.

Senior Austin Butler (Episcopal) had individual wins in the 50 and 100 (46.63) freestyles. He set a meet record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.29. The previous record (21.51) was set by Edmund Ring in 1994.

St. Charles Catholic's Luke Jackson, Ben Brady, Matt Torres, and Adam Fisher won the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.22).

Christian Riess (Newman) won the 200 IM (1:55.19) and the 100 butterfly (52.19). He teamed up with Maxwell Lasky, Aleksander Bahat, and Patrick Riess for a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.14). P. Riess also won the 100 backstroke (55.76).
