Louisiana Division 1-4 State Championships

SULPHUR, Louisiana, December 10. THE girls of Northshore High School tallied 295 points to claim the Louisiana Division 1 State Championship, held Nov. 19th-20th at SPAR Aquatic Center. St. Joseph's Academy finished runner-up with 269.5 points, while the squad from Saint Scholastica took home third place with 223 points.

Meanwhile, the Jesuit High School boys took the Division 1 team title by just one point over Fontainebleau, scoring 307 points. Catholic finished third with 278 points.

Alyssa Dilldine of Dutchtown was victorious in two individual events, taking home titles in the 200 free (1:54.20) and 500 free (5:02.33).

Fontainebleau's Kara Kopcso, another double-event winner, claimed victory in both the 200 IM (2:06.59) and 100 fly (57.52).

Jonna Frantz of MHS put her sprinting skills on display, winning the 50 free in 24.63 and the 100 free in 54.33.

Fontainebleau snared relay wins in both the 200 and 400 free relays, sprinting to times of 1:40.02 in the 200 and 3:40.30 in the 400.

On the boys' side, Jared Meredith of SHS emerged victorious in two individual events, taking the 100 and 200 free state titles in times of 1:44.65 and 47.45.

CHS's Grant Grenfell (200 IM, 1:55.06), ZHS's Caleb Champagne (50 free, 21.66), Archbishop Rummel's Eric Klein (100 fly, 51.62), Fontainebleau's Rhett Guinot (500 free, 4:47.53) and Northshore teammates Andre Smedstad (100 back, 51.57) and Michael Faust (100 breast, 59.15) also went home state champions.

In the Division 2 portion of the meet, Vandebilt Catholic was victorious in both the girls' and boys' competitions, amassing 409.5 points to win the girls title and 406 points to win the boys. St. Louis Catholic scored 266 points to finish second on the girls' side, while Lutcher wound up third with 216 points. Lutcher totaled 322 points to finish behind the Vadebilt Catholic boys, and Alexandria Senior High put up 306.5 points for third place.

Ursuline Academy's Katie Stahel emerged victorious in two events, touching first in the 200 free (2:00.07) and 100 fly (1:03.30).

Anne Claire Babineaux of St. Louis Catholic was another double-event winner, as she claimed wins in the 200 IM (2:19.37) and 100 back (1:03.20).

Cabrini's Emily Bozant took home both sprint crowns, as she raced to times of 25.02 in the 50 free and 55.45 in the 100 free.

Dylon Rykosky of East Jefferson won the 200 free (1:52.15) and 500 free (4:58.73).

Vandebilt Catholic's Kip Pierce swam to wins in the 100 fly (52.85) and 100 breast (1:01.72), while teammate Brennan Page emerged with state titles in the 100 free in 49.68 and the 100 back in 56.48.

The Division 3 team championship went to E.D. White (448 points) on the girls' side, and Holy Cross (460 points) on the boys' side. Academy of the Sacred Heart earned second place with 308 points, while Parkview scored 219 points to round out the top three girls teams. Parkview was second (303 points) and Berwick third (257 points) on the boys' side.

Notre Dame's Sarah Simar, the only double-event winner on the girls' side, took home titles in the 200 IM (2:28.31) and 500 free (5:40.57).

Jarrod Brown of Redemptorist earned two wins, as he touched in times of 1:46.61 in the 200 free and 4:51.63 in the 500 free.

Parkview's John Michael Moore came away with two state titles, earning first place in the 100 fly (52.31) and 100 back (53.65).

The girls of University High brought home the Division 4 state championship, finishing with 308.5 points. St. Charles Catholic (273 points) and Episcopal (269 points) finished in second and third. Meanwhile, St. Charles Catholic tallied 481 points to win the boys' meet over Newman (279 points) and Episcopal (210 points).

Smacker Miles picked up two individual wins for UHIG, winning the 200 IM in 2:09.60 and the 100 fly in 59.53.

UHIG's Caroline Forbes established herself as the fastest freestyler at the meet, winning both the 50 free (25.07) and 100 free (54.72).

Gage Alleman of St. Charles Catholic was another double-event winner, as he swam to wins in the 200 IM (2:02.42) and 100 back (55.12).
