Los Angeles Invitational: Nick D’Arcy, Elaine Breeden, Ellen Fullerton Shine

LOS ANGELES, California, July 15. DURING the first full day of action, several world-class times were posted at the Los Angeles Invitational being held in long course meter format.

Coming off a sixth-ranked time of 1:55.39 from last month in Santa Clara, Australia's Nick D'Arcy threw down a 1:56.88 for the men's 200 fly triumph this evening. Stanford's Bobby Bollier placed second in 1:58.18, while Australia's Daniel Tranter took third in 1:59.65.

Stanford's Elaine Breeden, who stands 14th in the world with a season best 2:08.14 from last month, cruised to victory in the women's 200 fly with a 2:09.12. Trojan's Lyndsay De Paul took second in 2:11.32, while North Coast's Tanya Krisman checked in third with a 2:12.85.

Australia's Ellen Fullerton climbed to 16th in the world rankings in the women's 400 IM with a winning 4:40.82. That time moved her in front of Blair Evans for the spot. Stanford's Julia Smit, who already stands ninth with a 4:38.83 from January, took second tonight in 4:41.46. Eastern Express' Victoria Cassidy placed third in 4:50.55.

Mission Aurora's Bonnie Brandon set a meet record in the women's 200 back with a 2:11.83. That effort beat the 2:12.00 set by Melissa Ingram of New Zealand in 2007. Australia's Mikkayla Sheridan finished second in 2:12.15, while Stanford's Maya DiRado rounded out the top three in 2:13.55.

Trojan's Clement Lefert won the men's 100 free in 49.37, while Australia's Ned McKendry touched second in 50.33. Cal's William Copeland wound up third in 50.58, with Tucson Ford's Matt Grevers placing fourth in 50.60.

Grevers returned in the men's 200 back with a 1:59.79 to down training partner Cory Chitwood (2:00.55). Trojan's Alex Lendrum earned third in 2:01.79. McKendry grabbed the men's 400 free crown in 3:53.02. Santa Clara's Ryan Hinshaw (3:57.26) and Trojan's Tyler Harris (3:58.26) completed the podium.

Australia's Remy Fairweather, 14, topped the women's 800 free with an 8:37.07, while New South Wales' Laura Crockart, 16, took second in 8:41.62. West Coast's Kelsey Cummings earned third in 8:46.90.
