Longhorn Aquatics Hooks USA Swimming Club Excellence Title

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., May 18. FOR the third straight year, Longhorn Aquatics has been named USA Swimming's Club Excellence Team Champion. Head coach Randy Reese's Austin, Texas-based club took top honors in the five-year-old program with 47,056 points. North Baltimore Aquatic Club placed second with 32,976 points, followed by Irvine Novaquatics with 30,271 points.

The USA Swimming Club Excellence Program is a voluntary program that identifies and recognizes USA Swimming clubs for their commitment to excellence in performance and for their support of the sport. In addition to recognizing the top club teams, the program provides grant funding for resources that enable clubs to expand and/or enhance the services they already provide for athletes.

"We offer our congratulations to Coach Randy Reese, his staff and the entire Longhorn Aquatics program," said Pat Hogan, USA Swimming's Club Development Director. "They have established a performance standard that all USA Swimming clubs can aspire to achieve."

"Overall, we are very pleased with the direction of the Club Excellence program. Not only did we have the most teams ever apply to participate, we also had more teams than in any previous year qualify to be considered for the Gold level. While only 16 teams can earn the Gold medal rank in a given year, 2006 saw 48 different teams achieve the performance measures to be eligible for the Gold level."
