Long Yuan Miguel Gutierrez Feng is en fuego at Mexican Nationals. Feng was just getting started with his victory and Pan Am qualifying swim in Sunday’s 100-meter fly. With two events today, he looked to carry last night’s momentum into finals. He sat within striking range of two national records tonight.

In a close battle, Feng topped the men’s 200-meter free in 1:51.33. He just missed adding his name to the national record board by 0.32, but did qualify for the Pan Am Games. Luis Enrique Campos Alizar swam a 1:51.79 to get second, while Julio Andres Olvera Alejos wound up third in 1:52.01.

Feng wasn’t finished. In the men’s 50-meter fly, he missed Manuel Sotomayor’s national record by only 0.05. Feng’s 24.56 was enough to fend off Alejandro Esudero Alvarez’s 24.61 and Daniel Zabdiel Ramriez Carranza’s 24.71.

Maria Fernanada Richaud Leyva took advantage of Liliana Ibańez Lopez’s scratch in the women’s 200-meter free finals to win in 2:02.92. Natalia Jaspeado came in a close second in 2:03.51. Ayumí Macias placed third in 2:04.66. All three qualified for the Pan Ams.

The women’s 100-meter breast saw three Pan Am qualifying times. Arantxa Medina Alegria led a tight top three to win in 1:10.59. Esther Gonzalez Medina (1:10.68) touched out Ana Daniela Carrillo Avilez (1:10.72) for second. Avilez was in control at the first 50, but Alegria and Medina stormed back to grab the top two spots.

Miguel Alejandro De Lara Ojeda posted a 1:02.36 to retain his top spot in the men’s 100-meter breast and punch his ticket to Pan Ams. Mauro Castillo Luna moved up to second with a 1:03.31, while Miguel Chavez Gonzalez fell to third in 1:03.66

Liliana Ibañez Lopez, a senior at Texas A&M, took the crown in the women’s 50-meter butterfly in 28.20. Esther Gonzalez Medina, her Aggie teammate, finished right behind her in 28.23. Natasha Gvakharia Mgebrishvi fell to third with a 28.27.

Mexican Nationals ends tomorrow with Pan Ams looming just over two months away.
