Lisa Bratton Gives Verbal Commitment to Texas A&M Aggies

RICHLAND, Washington, October 26. ONE of the top remaining female recruits in the class of 2014 made her decision today when Lisa Bratton committed to Texas A&M University. Swimming World learned of the news Saturday afternoon. Listed as the 28th-ranked recruit on CollegeSwimming.com, Bratton joins Bethany Gallat and Kristin Malone as top-50 prospects committed to the Aggies.

A resident of Richland, Washington, Bratton is currently a senior at Richland High School, and she swims for coach Todd Stafek with the Tri-City Channel Cats. Bratton brings some versatility down to College Station, but her backstroke talent gives her a chance to make an impact on the national level.

In short course, Bratton has swum 55.56 in the 100 back and 1:58.33 in the 200 back, times could give her a chance to score at the SEC Championships in her freshman campaign. She also has strong credentials in the IMs, with a time of 2:06.23 in the 200 IM and 4:18.54 in the 400 IM, and she could also grow into a relay contributor for the Aggies, especially on the 800 free relay, with times of 52.60 in the 100 free and 1:51.55 in the 200.

The Aggies finished second at the SEC Championships last year in their first year in the league. They beat out Florida by about 100 points for runner-up honors but could not match up with the eventual national champion Georgia Bulldogs. With the Bulldogs having reloaded with a monster class of 2014, Bratton will be a big factor in helping the Aggies mount a challenge to their new conference rivals. The Aggies finished fourth nationally in 2013, just behind Tennessee and ahead of Arizona and Florida.

Bratton swam a quartet of events at the Speedo Junior National Championships this past summer. She finished third in the 200 back in 2:11.54, and she claimed sixth place in the 100 distance, clocking 1:02.32. These times earned her a spot on the National Junior Team for 2013-2014. She also swam the 200 (2:20.88) and 400 IM (4:57.28).
