Limestone vs. Darton, Emory

ATLANTA, Georgia, January 17. THE women's swimming team earned three first place times by a trio of swimmers and placed in the top three in eight events on Saturday. Marta Stepien (Kedzierzyn, Poland), Donna Wickham (Trincity, Trindad & Tobago), and Isabell Nystrom (Stockholm, Sweden) led the Saints, with each swimmer recording first place times, helping Limestone to a win over Darton, 142-121, and a loss to Emory 91-157.

Stepien turned in a first place time in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.07) and was paced by teammate Carmen Adams (Conway, S.C.), who finished second (2:33.93). Wickham finished first in the 100 backstroke (1:00.31), narrowly winning by under a second. Nystrom would turn in the final first place time for the Saints, completing the 500 freestyle in 5:24.34.

The team of Jenna Arington (Pittsford, N.Y.), Marija Grubic (Split, Croatia), Jessi Sullivan (Lancaster, S.C.), and Wickham recorded a second place time of 1:47.77 in the 200 freestyle relay. Sullivan would also finish second in the 100 butterfly, with a time of 1:03.05.

For the men, Chad McKenzie (Durban, South Africa) led the way for the Saints on Saturday with three first place finishes, helping the men's swimming team to a split meet. The Saints came up short against Emory, 115-147, but defeated Darton by a score of 155-106. Limestone ended the day with seven first place times, including wins in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

McKenzie took first place times in the 200 butterfly (1:56.01), the 200 breaststroke (2:07.15), and the 400 IM (4:10.19). He also teamed up with Linvern Lim (Port Dickson, Malaysia), Matt Parsonage (Durban, South Africa), and Craig Jordens (Cape Town, South Africa) to record a first place time of 1:34.33 in the 200 medley relay.

Jordens and Lim also had strong showings individually on Saturday. Jordens turned in a first place finish in the 100 freestyle (46.31) and a second place time in the 200 freestyle (1:43.82), falling short by one-hundreth of a second. Lim contributed a first place time (52.51) in the 100 backstroke and a second place time (1:57.68) in the 200 backstroke.

The Saints took first place the final event of the day, the 200 freestyle relay,. The team of Jordens, Parsonage, Anders Melin (Karlstad, Sweden), and Goran Majlat (Split, Croatia), averaged 21.13 per leg to turn in a final time of 1:24.53.

Limestone returns to the Timken Aquatic Center on January 23 to swim against Catawba College. The meet is slated to begin at 6 p.m. in Gaffney, S.C.
