Leila Sloneker Signs with Miami University

OXFORD, Ohio, April 30. MIAMI University announced the signing of Leila Sloneker to increase its incoming recruiting class to 11 student-athletes. Sloneker, a Hamilton, Ohio, native comes to Miami from Badin High as a sprint freestyler with skills in the butterfly events.

"Leila is one of the most talented sprinters coming out of Southwestern Ohio this year," head coach Dave Jennings said. "As the valedictorian of her class, Leila will be a tremendous asset to Miami both athletically and academically."

A state finalist all four years of high school, Sloneker's most impressive season came as senior when she was district champion in the 50 and 100 freestyle and posted third-place state finishes in both sprint freestyle events. Named as the Greater Girl's Cincinnati League Swimmer of the Year in each of the last three seasons, Sloneker racked up a slew of impressive honors during her prep career, as she was named to the Cincinnati Enquirer All-Star Team, honored as an all-academic selection and tabbed as team MVP. Sloneker's personal-best times in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle would have placed her among the top 16 at the Mid-American Conference Championships last season.

"Leila has the potential to be a major contributor in the sprint events at the MAC level," Jennings said. "She is joining an already strong sprint group that is only graduating one sprinter, and she has been prepared to really improve in college."

Sloneker also was a successful club swimmer for Jay Frentsos at the Greater Miami YMCA.

Special thanks to Miami for providing this report.
