Leah Gingrich Doubles to Close YMCA Nationals

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, April 5. LEAH Gingrich of West Shore doubled up in the final day of competition at the YMCA National Championships held in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from April 2-5. The titles pushed Gingrich's total to three for the meet.

Gingrich grabbed the win in the 1650 freestyle with a 16:04.96 before tallying a victory in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:59.01. The other individual women's win went to Ralph Stolle's Lindsey Graessle with a 1:04.24 in the 100 breast.

Sarasota's Austin Detra earned his third individual title with a time of 15:23.79 in the 1650, while Triangle Area's Matt Donch garnered his third crown as well with a time of 1:49.36 in the 200 fly. Meanwhile, Pottstown's Mitchell Scherer touched first in the 100 breast with a time of 57.63.

In relay competition, Triangle Area's Teresa Long (23.56), Steffi Drechsel (23.76), Candace Cooper (23.43) and Mandy Myers (23.25) won the women's 200 freestyle in 1:34.00, while Schroeder's Kevin Baseheart (21.09), Greg Zupek (20.81), Steve Cebertowicz (20.23) and Garett Dissmore (21.59) topped the men's 200 freestyle in 1:23.72.

In the 400 medley relay, West Shore's Tricia Weaner (57.13), Marianne Flynn (1:04.24), Cookie McIntyre (57.26) and Gingrich (50.48) won the women's title in 3:49.11, while Schroeder's squad of Baseheart (52.35), William Colbert (58.62), Zupek (51.74) and Cebertowicz (45.61) grabbed the men's crown in 3:28.32.
