Lane of Virginia Takes 1500

The first event of the evening on the last day of the Women's NCAA Div. I Championships was the 1500 Freestyle. Virginia had two swimmers in the final heat while Stanford, Arizona, and Georgia each had one. At the 500 mark Cara Lane of Virginia led in 5:19.17 followed by Foschi of Stanford at 5:20.72, and Trina Jackson of AZ at 5:21.56. At the 1,000 Lane had extended her lead (10:39.42) and Jackson had moved into 2nd (10:48.20), while Mirjana Bosevska, also of Virginia, moved just ahead of Foschi who had faded to 4th (10:50.65, 10:50.83).

Lane continued to distance herself in the last 500 to finish first in 16:03.59 . Bosevska closed on Jackson so the two swam side by side the last 150 finishing only 29 hundreths apart with Jackson barely holding on but helping AZ gain points on Georgia. At the same time Foschi and Stonebraker raced for 4th side by side on the other side of the pool with Foschi finishing just .01 ahead!
