Reigning Swimming World World Swimmer of the Year Kosuke Hagino is the latest in a string of swimmers now injured prior to the World Championships.

According to Yahoo Japan, Hagino suffered a right elbow injury during a training trip to France, and is now back in Japan on a hospital visit to determine whether he will be able to continue to compete this summer.

Last month, Hagino left Japan to competed in a string of European grand prix appearances centered around a French training camp. He was also scheduled to move to altitude training in Spain before then moving to Russia to compete in the World Championships.

Hagino had been a gold medal favorite in the individual medleys, but now could miss the meet entirely.

Hagino is the latest in a long line of people now missing from the World Championships.

Yannick Agnel had to drop out due to pleurisy, while Therese Alshammar sustained a back injury.  James Magnussen also dropped out with a shoulder injury.
