Kilgallon, Gyurta Win On Night One of Plantation Sectionals

The 2018 Speedo Sectionals Championship Series in Plantation, Florida, began today and will continue through March 11 at the Plantation Aquatic Complex.

Women’s 1500 Free

Scarlet Aquatics’ Abigail Kilgallon started off the meet with a win in the women’s 1500 free. Kilgallon, who is committed to swim at Minnesota, finished with a time of 17:03.06.

Swimming unattached, Georgia Darwent took second in 17:07.88 and East Coast Aquatics’ Anna Auld was third in 17:09.09.

Swim Florida’s Hannah Vandress (17:38.90), Gulf Coast’s Kelsey Swartout (17:48.87), Hopkins Mariner’s Cristin Earley (17:50.27), Swim Florida’s Phoebe Langius (17:57.28) and Bolles’ Alexandra Breuer (18:12.08) completed the top eight.

Men’s 800 Free

2012 Hungarian Olympian Gergely Gyurta dominated the men’s 800 free, winning by nearly 11 seconds. He posted a final time of 8:02.97 for the win.

Gator Swim Club’s Mitch D’Arrigo took second in 8:13.63 and Swim Florida’s Ryan Staunch finished third in 8:29.28.

South Florida’s Rafael Rodriquez (8:34.12), Race Aquatics’ Neal Wolfram (8:43.87), Gator Swim Club’s Jacob Hyde (8:45.36), Scarlet Aquatic’s Zecheng Hu (8:45.52) and Azura Florida Aquatic’s Andres Lares (8:46.30) rounded out the top eight.

Women’s 4×50 Medley Relay

Gator Swim Club combined for a winning time 2:00.89 in the first relay event of the weekend. East Coast Aquatics was second in 2:01.90 and North Palm Beach Swim Club took third in 2:02.18.

Men’s 4×50 Medley Relay

Azura Florida Aquatics A relay quartet of Daniel Torres (27.66), Victor Fajer (31.04), Edson Lima (24.97) and Luis Florez (22.99) cruised to first in the men’s 4×50 medley relay, stopping the clock in 1:46.66. Their B relay finished second in 1:48.14 and Pine Crest took third in 1:51.80.

Women’s 4×50 Free Relay

The East Coast Aquatic Club team of Eriana Temperino (27.99), Megan Murphy (27.05), Madison Cummings (27.85) and Chade Nersicio (26.21) won the women’s 4×50 free relay in 1:49.10. Pine Crest finished second in 1:49.20 and North Palm Beach took third in 1:50.38.

Men’s 4×50 Free Relay

Azura Florida Aquatics again won the final relay of the night with a time of 1:34.74. Gator Swim Club finished second in 1:38.65 and South Florida Aquatics was third in 1:39.75.
