Keenan Newman Swims #1, #2 National H.S. Times as Davis High Sweeps the CIF-San Joaquin High School Crowns

LODI, CA., May 15. DAVIS Senior High swept aside all in its wake as it raced to the girls' and boys' CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Swimming and Diving Championships.

The meet was held Saturday at Lodi's Tokay High Pool.

Davis' girls were 323.5 – 252 winners over Lincoln with Rio Americano (242) third.

On the boys' side Davis scored a nearly identical but just ever so slightly better 325 to outpoint runners-up Granite Bay's 259 and Armijo's 172.5.

The Davis girls won but a single event — the 200 medley relay in 1:48.17 — but used depth to carry them to the title.

Rio Americano's Erin Reilly was the meet's only doubler but what a double it was, splashing to sectional records in the 200 free (1:49.36) and 100 fly (54.87). Both swims are automatic All-America cuts and the fly time ranks her eighth nationally.

Other winning times included a 2:05.10 200 IM by Reilly's RA teammate Cathleen Penney, a 23.40 50 free by Lodi's Cheryl Bingeman, a 52.52 100 free by Lincoln's Nicoletta Ruhl, a 4:59.09 500 free by her teammate, Jessica Cotton; RA's 1:37.83 200 free relay, Marysville's Marif Schweitzer's 57.58 100 back, Oak Ridge's Kim Miller's 1:04.23 100 breastand Rio Americano's 3:33.64 400 free relay.

Schweitzer is the younger sister of former Marysville All-America dorsal specialist Sarabeth.

On the boys' side, there were a pair of doubles by Del Oro's Michael Warm (200 free, 1:42.67; 100 back, 51.81) and by Davis' Keenan Newman, who went auto All-America cuts of 1:48.40 for the 200 IM and 55.74 for the 100 breast.

That IM time is No. 2 nationally to the 1:47.86 by Parkview's Eric Shanteau from last March's Georgia state meet and his breaststroke victory is far and
away tops nationally (nobody else has been under 56.0).
