Katinka Hosszu Signs With Vasas Sports Club, Building Pro Swim Stable

BUDAPEST, Hungary, January 17. SWIMMING World's February cover personality Katinka Hosszu is making some big moves in early 2013 after an amazing 2012 that featured world titles and a FINA World Cup Queen overall title.

Hosszu, along with her agent Shane Tusup, has signed with the 102-year-old Vasas Sports Club in Hungary. The organization is the oldest in the nation, and has a huge reputation for excellence in all of its sports, especially its water polo team. Overall, Vasas boasts upwards of 40 Olympic gold medals by members of the club, and more than 1,000 various Hungarian national championships among all the various sports the club offers. With Hosszu fully relocating to Hungary after a tremendous college career at the University of Southern California, she is now looking to develop the sport in her home country.

“Coming back to Hungary has been fantastic, I can really feel the support from everyone around us,” Hosszu told Swimming World. “When these opportunities to start a club and build a professional team came up in Hungary, I thought that we really needed to take advantage of everything I learned while I was in America. Hungary has a very strong swimming tradition, and I really wanted to be a part of it and build upon that tradition. Hungary is a huge swimming talent pool, and I think it is really about giving those athletes the opportunity to reach their true potential.”

Hosszu and Tusup are working together to develop a full blown swim club at Vasas, and is building a professional squad around Hosszu.

“We recently signed Zsombor Szana, a Junior European Bronze Medalist, specializing in the 400 IM, 200 Fly, and 200/400 freestyle events, as well as rising breaststroke sprint star Cseke Csomor to the Professional Team,” Tusup said. “Both athletes will train and travel alongside Katinka. Additionally, there are a few more athletes thinking to join the group, we are just waiting for the details to be finalized.”

Competitively, Hosszu is picking up right where she left off, as the workhorse swimmer with an incredible meet schedule, as she's already entered every single event at the Luxembourg Euro Meet this weekend. Hosszu made her mark at the FINA World Cup by routinely winning medals in 5-7 events at every single two-day stop.

Here's to an exciting 2013 for Hosszu.
