Katinka Hosszu Shines in Day Two Prelims of Hungarian National Championships

Day two of the Hungarian National Championships kicked off with a swift 100-meter back from Katinka Hosszu in prelims. Hosszu posted a 59.82, a time that is only .38 seconds off her 2015 world best of 59.47, to secure the first-place seed going into semi-finals.

Katalin Burian turned in a 1:03.62 to secure the second-place seed, while Reka Gyorgy was third with a 1:03.66.

Hosszu later posted on her Facebook page that she would not be swimming any other races at the Championships. Without Hosszu the competition opened up for the first-place seed. It was Sara Joo who claimed the first-place seed semi-finals in the women’s 100-meter back with a 1:03.20. Burian maintained her second-place seed with a 1:03.73, and Gyorgy rounded out the top three with a 1:04.99.

Niccolo Bonacchi led the men’s 100-meter back during prelims finishing with a time of 55.51. Abdall Mohamed Youseff Ahmed claimed the second-place seed with a 56.72, while David Foldhazi was third with a 57.59.

Gabor Balog moved up to the first-place seed during semi-finals with a time of 54.76. Bonacchi moved to the second-place seed with a time of 54.91. Radoslaw Kawecki claimed the third-place seed with a 55.22.

Dalma Sebestyen took first in prelims of the women’s 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:11.38. Viktoria Kardos posted a 1:12.64, while Mohame Tolba Rowida Hesham claimed the third-place seed with a 1:12.64.

In semi-finals it was Kardos who moved up to the first-place seed touching the wall with a 1:11.70. Gonna Dzerkal grabbed second with a 1:12.12, while Mai Atef Abdelfattah finished third with a 1:12.36.

Prelims of the men’s 200-meter free saw Alex Di Giorgio leading with a 1:50.42. Daniel Dudas turned in a 1:51.06, and Peter Bernek was a 1:51.81.

Bernek shaved 2.8 seconds off his prelims time to claim first in the semi-finals with a 1:49.01. Di Giorgio posted a 1:49.28, dropping 1.14 seconds from his prelims time. Dudes rounded out the top three with a 1:50.15.

Melinda Novoszath led the women’s 1500-meter free in prelims finishing with a time of 16:57.19. Adel Juhasz finished close behind with a 16:59.48. Boglarka Kapas rounded out the top three with a 17:27.79.

Edoardo Giorgetti and David Horvath kept it close in finals of the men’s 100-meter breaststroke, but it was Giorgetti who came out on top. Georgette touched the wall with a 1:02.07, while Horvath finished with a 1:02.16. Gabor Financsek was third with a 1:02.51.

Alys Thomas claimed the win in the women’s 100-meter fly with a final time of 59.13. Evelyn Verraszto took second with a 59.26, while Lilliana Szilagyi rounded out the top three with a 59.28.

Laslo Cseh took first in the finals of the men’s 50-meter fly with a 23.81. Kristin Takacs was second with a 23.95, while Adam Telegdy finished third with a 24.23.

Zsuzsanna Jakobos dashed to first in the finals of the women’s 200-meter IM with a 2:!2.44. Gyorgy claimed second with a 2:15.33, while Sebestyan was third with a 2:16.70.
