Katinka Hosszu Debuts New “Iron Lady” Logo

BERLIN, Germany, August 14.  JUST days before the opening of the 2014 European Championships, Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu has debuted a new “Iron Lady” logo, following in the tradition of Ricky Berens’ personal RB logo as well as Misty Hyman’s Mistyfly brand.

Hosszu’s brand of the Iron Lady really began to take hold a few years back due to her aggressive meet scheduling, where it is not uncommon to see Hosszu swim in every single event – she just did it at the Hungarian Nationals.  It first began as a money-making venture, as she was able to secure more in cash prizes in the past two years via the FINA World Cup tour than any professional swimmer in the history of the sport.  Yes, other swimmers have made more via sponsorshop dollars like Michael Phelps or Ryan Lochte, but no one has approached Hosszu’s multi-event ability when it comes to racing for cash.

Hosszu, and her husband-coach Shane Tusup, then morphed the cash-centric scheduling into part of her training schedule.  If you are going to regularly swim multiple times a day as part of training, it makes sense that part of each week could be considered race-pace training as you are vying for money on the pro circuit.  This is truly when the Iron Lady moniker took hold for Hosszu, as her training and racing has become almost mythical within the sport.  She’s even started wanting to challenge herself at another level by trying to race in men’s heats.

Expect to see a line of merchandising out with the new logo.
