Katinka Hosszu Dashes To Top of 200 Back in Prelims at 2015 FINA World Championships

Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu continued what has proved to be a successful meet for her with a first-place seed in the women’s 200-meter back. Hosszu turned in a 2:07.17 for first, just shy of her 2015 world best of 2:06.81.

Missy Franklin of the United States grabbed the second-place seed for semi-finals with a time of 2:07.84. Franklin improved upon her world best of 2:09.84 which she posted at the Santa Clara stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series. Her new time boosts her up from eighteenth in the world rankings to fourth.

Canada’s Dominique Bouchard turned in a sizzling 2:08.66 to improve upon her world best time of 2:08.99 which she posted at the Orlando stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series.

Russia’s Daria Ustinova tied for the fourth-place seed with Eyglo Gustafsdottir posting 2:09.16 from heat three. Ustinova is shy of her world best of 2:07.29, but Gustafsdottir moves up twelfth.

Germany’s Jenny Mensing finished sixth in prelims with a time of 2:09.43, just barely getting ahead of Australia’s Emily Seebohm who turned in a 2:09.43. While she made it into the top eight, Seebohm is going to have to kick it in gear if she is going to defend her first-place world ranking of 2:06.69.

Elizabeth Beisel of the United States rounds out the top eight with a time of 2:09.54 not too far behind Seebohm and Mensing.

Germany’s Lisa Graf (2:09.68), Poland’s Alicja Tchorz (2:10.04), Kristy Coventry (2:10.38), Italy’s Margherita Panziera (2:10.39), Great Britain’s Elizabeth Simmonds (2:10.48), Russia’s Irina Prikhodko (2:10.81), Canada’s Hilary Caldwell (2:10.92) and Duane Da Rocha (2:11.53) add to the top eight for semi-finals.
