Katie Ledecky, Kelsi Worrell Shine in Day Two Prelims of IU Bucceto Open

Katie Ledecky produced an impressive 4:03.67 in the 400 free, a time that is only 3.2 seconds off her world ranking of 4:00.47 for 2015 during prelims of day two at the IU Bucceto Open in Indiana.

With the impressive times she has been turning in, Ledecky could very well be on her way to breaking her own world record of 3:58.37 at the World Championships in Kazan, Russia.

Day two of the IU Bucceto Open kicked off with Kelsi Worrell and Ledecky shining in prelims of the 100 free. The two young stars posted quick times to secure the first and second-place seeds going into finals tonight. Worrell posted a 55.63, while Ledecky finished in 55.91.

The men’s 100-meter free saw Blake Pieroni and Trevor Carroll battling for tonight’s first place seed. Despite a faster first 50 split from Carroll, it was Pieroni who touched first with a 52.21. Carroll took the second place seed with a 52.31, while Kyle DeCoursey rounds out the top three with a 52.61.

Hannah Kukurugya led the pack in the women’s 200-meter fly finishing with a 2:13.31 to grab the first place seed. Isabella Rongione (2:15.51) and Vanna Krause (2:16.31) finished second and third respectively.

Zach Harting and Max Irwin raced to a close finish in the men’s 200-meter fly but it was Harting who got his hand on the wall first. Hating (2:08.26), Irwin (2:08.90) and Nathaniel Bledsoe (2:09.18) lead going into tonight’s finals.

Claire Adams finished four seconds ahead of the competition to claim the first-place seed in tonight’s women’s 200-meter back final. Hannah Magnusen (2:19.03) and Ashley Leclair (2:19.17) join her to round out the top three.

Andrew Gemmell churned out a quick 3:58.08 in prelims of the men’s 400-meter free. He is joined in the top three of finals tonight by Matthew Hirschberger (4:01.41) and Trevor Carroll (4:06.15).

I think Katie and Kelsi, as top two seeds, were in different 100 heats this morning
