Katie Hoff Closes Out First Return Meet Since 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials

PLANTATION, Florida, November 24. AFTER turning in her first competitive swim since the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials last night at the Speedo Winter Championships in Florida, Olympian Katie Hoff closed out her meet this evening.

Hoff, swimming for Hurricane Aquatics, topped the women’s 200-yard IM this evening in 1:59.01. That’s definitely a return-meet swim as the Olympic silver medalist is typically down in the 1:55-1:57 range in this event along with an amazing lifetime best of 1:53.77 back in 2007 at the NBAC Christmas Invitational. During prelims, Hoff charted a 2:00.32.

Hoff then took second in the 100-yard free with a 50.55, just two seconds off her lifetime best of 48.55 from way back in 2006. She wound up taking second to 17-year-old Clara Smiddy, who won in 50.43. Smiddy had a strong meet this weekend with wins in the 200 back (1:55.07), 50 free (23.51) and 50 back (25.73)

Yesterday, Hoff cruised to a win in the 200 free with a 1:45.93 after qualifying first in 1:47.10 out of prelims. Check out footage of that swim, with Olympic gold medalist Tiffany Cohen helping with Florida Swim Network’s commentating crew
