LAWRENCE, Kansas, November 28. THE Kansas swimming and diving program announced the fall signing of five new swimmers and one diver that will join the 2007-08 team. Diver Lauren Bell and swimmers Sarah Edwards, Amanda Maez, Krista Perkins, Alyssa Potter and Brittany Potter complete the fall recruiting period for the Jayhawk swimming and diving team.

Edwards and Brittany and Alyssa Potter, all out of Bentonville, Ark., have made significant contributions to their high school teams. Edwards, a 2004, 2005 and 2006 Arkansas All-State selection, finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.03) and 500-yard freestyle (5:04.94) in addition to first-place team honors in the 400 and 200-yard freestyle relays at the 2006 Arkansas high school state meet. Edwards represented Conway High School through the 2006 high school season but has joined the Potters at Bentonville High School for the 2006-07 season.

At Bentonville, both of the Potters reeled in Arkansas All-State accolades in 2005 and 2006. At the 2006 Arkansas state meet that Bentonville won, A. Potter swept the 100-yard freestyle (54.13) as well as the 100-yard breaststroke event (1:09.37). B. Potter was victorious in the 200-yard IM (2:12.53) and the 100-yard butterfly (59.35). Both Potters were a part of the winning 200-yard medley and freestyle relays.

Maez, a current high school senior at La Cueva High School in Abuquerque, New Mexico, specializes in sprint freestyle. She had third place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (24.27), the 100-yard freestyle (53.74) and as a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay. Maez was also a member of the second-place 400-yard freestyle relay at the 2006 New Mexico high school state meet.

Perkins looks to make an instant impact in sprint freestyle as well. The Francis Howell Central High School swimmer finished the 50-yard freestyle in 25.08 at the Missouri high school state meet.

"We are really pleased with our early signings this fall," head coach Clark Campbell said. "Both coach (Jen) Fox and coach (Eric) Elliott did a great job in landing these soon-to-be Jayhawks. Each will contribute to the team both in the pool and in the classroom and we are excited about them joining the program."

Bell, a Bakersfield, Calif., native, moved to Long Beach, Calif., over the past summer. Bell is a U.S. Diving and AAU national qualifier and finalist.

"Lauren has amazing athletic ability and some quality Jr. diving experience," diving coach Eric Elliott said. "She will have an immediate impact on our team as a freshman and I am looking forward to working with her."
