Kansas Girls High School State Championships

TOPEKA, Kansas, May 29. THE Kansas Girls' High School State Championships took place May 19-21 at the Hummer Sports Complex in Topeka.

1A-5A Results
Topeka-West's Emily Dicus earned double wins in the 100 and 200 free and set new meet records in both. She clocked 49.45 in the 100 and 1:48.33 in the longer distance. In other events, Wichita-Trinity's Chesley Kilgore won the 50 (24.72) and Topeka-Seaman's Maggie Metz the 100 fly (58.71). Andover-Central's Gina Gernhous took the win in the 200 IM (2:11.11), Wichita-Independent's Brooke Brittain hit the wall ahead of the field in the 100 back (59.17), and Topeka-Hayden's Elise Valdez won first in the 100 breast (1:10.42).

Stilwell-Blue Valley's Samantha Brennan took home victory in the 500 free in 5:07.12, and her team won all three relays. Becca Bond, Helena Bertels, Felicia Walker, and Lexi Dienstbier won the 200 medley relay (1:54.91), while teammates Colby Snyder and Beth Houghton joined Walker and Dienstbier on the 200 free relay to earn the win (1:44.09). Katya Vakshteyn, Houghton, Bertels, and Brennan concluded the meet with a win in the 400 free relay in 3:43.35. Emporia's Chelsey Kessler won one meter diving with 375.30 points.

Stilwell-Blue Valley cruised to the overall team title with 381 points. Wichita-The Independent School placed second with 177, beating out Newton (162).

Shawnee Mission-East's Martson Fries and Wichita-Northwest's Nikki Daniels each took home first place in two individual events. Daniels took the 200 IM (2:07.39) and 100 breast (1:04.74), while Fries won the 100 (52.76) and 200 free (1:53.60). Fries anchored teammates Katy Richardson, Madeline Peters, and Lanie Leek to victory in the 200 free relay (1:39.69), while Shawnee Mission-East also won the 200 medley relay. Lili Stalder, Hallie Beck, Emily Fuson, and Richardson swam to a 1:51.25 winning time.

Oalthe-East's Ashlee Foster won the 50 free (24.64), while Shawnee Mission-West's Kate Snyder took home the 100 back title (58.46). Olathe-Northwest's Natalie Morris finished first in the 100 fly (56.27), and teammate Mackenna Rife took the 500 free (5:08.30). Teammates Mackenzie Neeley and Katie Vaughan joined Rife and Morris on the winning 400 free relay, where Olathe-Northwest clocked 3:37.17. O P-Blue Valley Northwest's Adrianna Lewis took the win in one meter diving, scoring 431.60 points.

Shawnee Mission-East took the team title with 360.5 points, while Olathe-Northwest took second with 248. O P-Blue Valley-North rounded out the top three, scoring 232 points.
