Kamrau-Corestein, Bircher Win 17th Stop of FINA Marathon World Cup

HONG KONG, October 3. FINA presented its 17th stop in the FINA Marathon Swimming World Cup on Sunday in Hong Kong. The 10k competition took place in Repulse Bay.

In the women’s race, Germany’s Britta Kamrau-Corestein added her eighth victory of the series with a 2:45:32.80 clocking. She knocked off Czech Jana Pechanova, who finished with a silver-winning time of 2:45:32.85, while Kamrau-Corestein’s primary rival during the series, countrywoman Angela Maurer, closed out the top three in 2:45:36.95.

Meanwhile, on the men’s side of the ledger, Britain’s Alan Bircher pocketed gold in 2:28:59.80, while Russia’s Evgeny Drattsev snared second in 2:31:48.40. Bulgaria’s Petar Stoychev, the frontrunner in the series, finished in third in 2:31:50.45.

The Marathon World Cup heads down the home stretch with an Oct. 8 swim in Singapore before its final meet in Portugal on Oct. 15.
