SAN CLEMENTE, California, October 1. KAITLYN Albertoli, who took part in JSerra Catholic High School’s national high school record-setting 400 free relay in 2013, will go further north in California and attend Stanford University next fall.

“I am so thrilled to join this incredible group of girls and awesome coaches as a part of the Cardinal family!” Albertoli said. “I feel very blessed for the opportunity to attend such a great university!”

Albertoli swam the leadoff leg on JSerra’s 400 free relay in May 2013, posting a 50.39 on the way to the school’s 3:21.20. (Carondelet broke that record a week later.) She has since broken 50 seconds four times, the fastest being leading off JSerra’s 400 free relay last May with a 49.82. She also has a lifetime best of 22.71 in the 50 free from the Trinity League championships. In the 50 and 100 freestyles at the CIF Southern Section high school championships, Albertoli finished second to national high school records set by Abbey Weitzeil.

She also has the endurance for the 200 freestyle, with a short course yards best of 1:47.47. In the long course pool, her 50 free lifetime best stands at 25.86 with a best time of 56.94 in the 100 free. She was fourth in the 50 free at this summer’s junior nationals with a 26.07 and improved on that with a 25.88 a week later at senior nationals.

Stanford will need Albertoli’s relay prowess next year, as she will help the Cardinal after losing All-American sprinter Maddy Schaefer to graduation.
