Junior Pan Pacs Team Member Eric Ronda Commits To Harvard

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 15. THE Ivy League got into the Class of 2013 recruiting action when Harvard recently gained the commitment of Swimming World five-star recruit Eric Ronda. Ronda, who swims with the Wilton Y Wahoos in Connecticut, will be remaining in the Northeast for college.

Ronda is a breaststroke specialist who already owns an NCAA Division I B cut in the 200-yard breast with a 1:58.82 lifetime best from the 2012 YMCA National Championships. He also has top long course meter times in the 100-meter breast (1:03.29) and 200-meter breast (2:13.66).

“I chose Harvard because it encapsulates everything I wanted in a college experience,” Ronda told Swimming World “Most importantly for me was choosing a school that offered a challenging academic environment along with the structure where I could continue to develop in the pool. Given Tim Murphy's recent experience with the 2012 Olympics, the resources are there along with a strong motivation to continue to build on that tradition. I am really excited to plug into this momentum and see how far it takes me. Lastly, I know that being in a great college town like Cambridge will be the added bonus that will make the next four years truly amazing.”

Ronda is the 20th-ranked swimmer in the country according to CollegeSwimming.com, who also ranks Ronda as the top swimmer coming out of Connecticut. Kazumu Takabayashi of SoNoCo is now the top swimmer left on the board from Connecticut.

Ronda competed in the Junior Pan Pacific Championships this summer in Hawaii, but had the unfortunate task of going against Japan's Akihiro Yamaguchi. Ronda was the top American in the 100-meter breast with a fifth-place 1:03.52 in the same race Yamaguchi blasted a 59.85. He also placed third in the 200-meter breast with a 2:13.89. That race served as Yamaguchi's tune up with a 2:08.03 before winding up breaking the world record with a 2:07.01 just a month later in Japan.
