Ju, Leaver Honored by Missouri Valley Conference

ST. LOUIS, Missouri, November 8. AFTER breaking two individual conference records, this week's Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week is Julie Ju of Southern Illinois. Last year's co-MVP of the conference championship, Ju owns five Valley best times so far this season. Chelsea Leaver of Missouri State is the diver of the week.

Ju, a Shang-hai native, broke two Missouri Valley Conference records, in the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke. In the 500, she swam 4:57.27, breaking the previous mark of 4:58.07. In the breaststroke, her time of 1:03.34 bested the six-year old record of 1:04.35.

She piled up five individual wins over the past weekend and also swam on four winning relay teams. She was also part of the 400 free relay team that set a new Valley record with a time of 3:27.00. Her times in the 100 breast and 100 rree are also NCAA provisional-qualifying times.

Ju currently hold the top time in the Valley in five different events, including the 50-yard freestyle (23.64), 100-yard freestyle (50.88), 200-yard freestyle (1:52.91), 500-yard freestyle (4:57.27) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.34).

Leaver, a freshman on the Missouri State diving squad, placed first on the one-meter board and second on the three-meter board in a dual meet against Delta State Friday in Cleveland, Miss. She won the one-meter diving competition with 197.63 points and tallied 193.12 points for her second-place finish on the three-meter board.
