Johns Hopkins Defeats Washington & Lee, and Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Johns Hopkins senior Krissy Brinsley (Avon, IN/Avon) won three events over the weekend to lead the Blue Jays' women's swimming team to a 120-31 win over Washington & Lee and an 88-64 victory over host Mary Washington. The Hopkins men also won twice, defeating Washington & Lee 115-36 and Mary Washington 116-35.

Brinsley won the 200 backstroke in 2:13.98, the 100 backstroke in 1:00.23, and the 200 individual medley in 2:11.70, as the Blue Jays improved to 6-3 in dual meet action this season. Stephanie Harbeson (Harriman, NY/The Peddie School-NJ) won the 200 freestyle in 1:58.08 and the 500 freestyle in 5:12.55, while Megan Rudinsky (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) took the 100 butterfly in 58.88 and the 50 freestyle in 24.84.

Other winners for the women's team were Meghan Bullock (Phoenix, AZ/Phoenix Country Day), who won the 1650 freestyle in 18:30.27, Michelle Phillips (Northridge, CA/Phillips Exeter Academy), who won the 100 freestyle in 53.97, and Elizabeth Schlicher (Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes), who won the 400 individual medley in 4:51.31. Hopkins also took the 400 medley relay in 4:06.14, the 400 freestyle relay in 3:39.99, and the 200 medley relay in 1:52.50.

Four Blue Jays won two events apiece for the men's team, including Scott Armstrong (Medford Lakes, NJ/Bernards/West Morris Central), who won the 1650 freestyle in 16:26.03 and the 500 freestyle in 4:46.99. Kyle Robinson (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) took the 100 freestyle in 48.29 and the 200 freestyle in 1:46.92, Loren Robinson (Coats, NC/Triton) won the 200 breaststroke in 2:16.77 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.89, and J.P. Balfour II (Plano, TX/Plano East) won the 400 individual medley in 4:11.02 and the 200 individual medley in 1:59.55.

Other winners were Jeffrey Chu (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville), who won the 200 butterfly in 1:57.10, David Lofthus (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), who took the 100 backstroke in 53.76, and Joe Chung (Logan, UT/Sky View), who won the 50 freestyle in 21.86. The Blue Jays, who are now 8-1 this season, also dominated the relays, winning the 400 medley relay in 3:36.50, the 200 freestyle relay in 1:28.06, the 800 freestyle relay in 7:10.79, the 400 freestyle relay in 3:13.86, and the 200 medley relay in 1:38.90.

Both Hopkins teams will swim their final dual meet of the season on Wednesday when they host UMBC at 4 p.m.
