John Trembley Declines Appeal of Termination from Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, January 18. FORMER Tennessee men's swimming head coach John Trembley has elected to forgo the appeals process for his termination that occurred on Jan. 3 according to the News Sentinel.

"At this time my client has no intentions of appealing his dismissal," Trembley's attorney, former UT swimmer Don Bosch, told the News Sentinel on Tuesday.

Trembley, as previously reported, was dismissed from Tennessee earlier this month for "gross misconduct." This gross misconduct, which has yet to be detailed in public, led to the Knoxville Police Department launching a criminal investigation of Trembley's actions that led to his termination.

"The finding of gross misconduct led us to turn this case over to the proper law enforcement authorities," Margie Nichols, UT's vice chancellor for communications, said in a news release sent to the KNS. "Since this is an ongoing investigation, we are unable to comment further."

Trembley's contracted defined gross misconduct as "theft or dishonesty; gross insubordination; willful destruction of University property; falsification of records; acts of moral turpitude; reporting for duty under the influence of intoxicants: illegal use, manufacture, possession, distribution, or dispensing of controlled substances or alcohol; disorderly conduct; provoking a fight; and other similar acts involving intolerable behavior by the employee."

While no news has come out regarding the specific action that led to Trembley's dismissal, Knoxville PD assigned investigator Richard Giammarino to the case. Giammarino usually investigates cases involving financial crimes.
