John Posts British Age Group Record

PONDS FORGE, Sheffield, July 28. ADAM John, 14, from Plymouth Leander set a British Age Group Record of 2:08.72, more than a second faster than the previous mark, in the boys 200-meter backstroke on the first day of competition at the Cheestrings ASA National Age Group Championships.

Swimmers from 39 cubs won medals, while Ryan Flannigan, 11, claimed the most medals with three. His first win came in the boys 100-meter freestyle. His winning time of 1:02.27 placed ahead of Tom Bielich who took silver in 1:03.80 and Bruno Banks who took bronze in 1:04.36.

Flannigan’s second gold came in the 200-meter Backstroke with a winning time of 2:30.34. Miles Garner took silver and Matthew Johnson earned bronze by finishing in 2:31.82 and 2:34.17, respectively.

Flannigan’s third medal of the night came with a silver in the boys 200-meter IM as Johnson turned the table to take the gold in 2:30.54 just ahead of Flannigan’s 2:30.66 and James Clark’s finish for the bronze in 2:37.79
